Sunday 28th April saw 13 of our Men’s squad compete at the Regional Championships.

This was Mark’s first competition, and he competed in the Under 8 age group. With his ‘I can do this’ attitude and ‘I’m going to enjoy this’, Mark started on Floor with a solid routine and from this point on just soared around the arena soaking up the competition experience and enjoyed every minute of being under the judges eyes. A true competitor came to play and finished in 2nd place overall and taking 6 apparatus medals!

In the Under 9 age group Kian, Luke, Max and Erik competed. Only their second competition appearance and they turned up the heat. Erik had a fantastic competition, nailing his front somersault on floor, long swinging around the bar with success and clearing the vault with a much improved handspring, Erik finished in 9th place overall. Max finished in 8th place overall demonstrating his ability to circle 10 times successfully around the Mushroom, perform a great upstart on P.Bars and flew over the vault taking 3rd Place for this apparatus! Luke demonstrated his competitive nature and took each piece by piece in his stride, enjoying the experience within the arena and performing 6 clean routines medalling on Floor, Pommel and Rings and 2nd place overall! Kian finished in 2nd Place overall demonstrating his competitive nature, strength, elegance and poise throughout all his routines securing 3 apparatus medals on Floor, Rings and P.Bar.

In the Under 10 age group Whittaker performed an impressive, stylish floor routine and a demonstrated incredible strength on rings to medal on both these pieces along with joint 2nd place overall with teammate Ezra! Sharing the 2nd place podium, Ezra swung to success on H.Bar with great clean lines, beautiful handstands and stunning routines on all pieces, also collecting a further 3 apparatus medals! Jasper shone on Floor with a great routine securing the silver for this piece and demonstrated much improved routines all around! A personal best competition for Jasper! Rocco added to the Pegasus trio on the Rings podium with a fantastic routine. Strong, dynamic and elegant along with a huge Handspring over the Vault to take silver!

During the competition, these boys showed immense support for one another, their team spirit and support for every member of the team was a true credit to each and every single one of them and a very proud moment for their parents and coaches!

Round 2 saw our experienced Under 12 gymnasts compete. Ben demonstrated poise and confidence during the competition, a well flighted vault and a clean swinging H.Bar routine to take 4th place overall and medals for H.Bar and Vault. Brodie showed resilience throughout the competition and adaptability along with a fantastically clean P.Bar routine to take the silver for this piece and 6th place overall! Leo competed with some new skills within his routines and performed them successfully to retain the Under 12 title from last year along with 5 apparatus medals. Leo, Ben and Brodie all qualified to represent the South East Region at the British Teams event in June!

Eliyah competed quietly, chilled and confidently, watching the European Men’s Team Final at the same time, with new impressive routines that he mastered with ease taking the overall title and 6 apparatus medals!

A huge congratulations to all the boys and their coaches on the personal bests and successes of the day!
