Background & Experience

As a highly accomplished gymnast Ionut was accepted as a potential coach at the National Academy in Bucharest.

Ionut was recruited from Romania in 1998 as Senior Coach to take responsibility for developing opportunities for both boys and girls.

His careful, caring approach coupled with detailed planning and superb technical knowledge have helped build an outstanding team of coaches at the club able to support the elite level of performance for which it is now known. Gymnasts with whom he works have succeded at home and abroad with Courtney Tulloch winning a Bronze team medal for England at the 2010 World School Games.

Ionut has continued creating varied opportunities- including training sessions, camps, courses, club exchanges which have resulted in gymnasts achieving National squad selection since 2005. In partnership with Gymnastics England he has master minded the Club & Coach development scheme at the club which has reuslted in coaches gaining additional qualifications, a significant number of new coaches particularly in Satellite Clubs enabling many more children to enjoy quality gymnastics.

Ionut works regularly with the National elite squad. His work was recognised by the South East Region in 2009 and he has been nominated for the Gymnastics England "Development Coach of the Year" Award.

Now a British citizen, promoted to Head Coach at Pegasus and shortly to be married Ionut is totally committed to the development of the Club and it's place in British Gymnastics.
